I’ve been in Washington DC the last couple of days helping
our sister station WUSA-TV with their coverage of President Obama’s
inauguration. K*USA sent me here on Friday and I’ll be returning to Denver on
This is the first time I’ve been deployed to another Gannett station to assist. It’s been an incredible experience!
For starters: I’ve never been to Washington DC before. It’s an incredible town! I’m amazed by the architecture! Second: WUSA is pretty cool and so are all of its employees! I had a wonderful time getting to know them.
Unlike KUSA, WUSA is not an NBC affiliate. Instead, it’s a CBS affiliate. The first TV station I worked for was a CBS affiliate. It was neat getting to work in a newsroom again with the CBS Eye logo everywhere!
The two stories I turned for WUSA were feature-type pieces about the inauguration. On Saturday I profiled the floral artist who designed the flower arrangements for the President’s inaugural luncheon.
On Sunday, I was sent to a red carpet event at one of the inaugural balls. While there, I got to interview folks like Eva Longoria, John Legend, Wayne Brady and La La Anthony. I didn’t know who many of them were, but it was still an honor to meet them.
While Reporting for WUSA, I also turned custom reports/de-briefs for KUSA’s newscasts. It was kind of funny. If you were in DC you could catch me on the 11pm news on WUSA and if you were in Denver you could catch me on the 9pm and 10pm news on KTVD and KUSA. Brings new meaning to ‘9News Everywhere’ haha.
Over all, it was a great experience – and I’ll never forget getting to cover a Presidential Inauguration!
